Detailed Setup Guide

1

Unbox Your Trezor Device

Carefully unbox your Trezor device and ensure all components are present. For Trezor Model T, you should find the device itself, a USB-C cable, recovery seed cards, and a getting started manual. For Trezor Model One, you'll find the device, a USB cable, and recovery seed cards.

Examine your device for any signs of damage or tampering. Your Trezor should be pristine with no pre-scratches or markings. Check that the holographic security seal is intact on the device packaging.

2

Connect Your Device

Connect your Trezor device to your computer using the provided USB cable. For mobile setup, you can use a USB OTG adapter (for Android devices) or await Bluetooth connectivity in future updates.

If this is your first time connecting the device, you should see a welcome message on the Trezor screen. If you see anything else, your device might have been tampered with.

3

Install Trezor Suite

Visit suite.trezor.io from your desktop browser to download Trezor Suite. Always verify you're on the official Trezor website to avoid phishing attempts.

Trezor Suite is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. There's also a web version that works directly in your browser if you prefer not to download the application.

4

Initialize Your Device

Open Trezor Suite and follow the prompts to set up your device. You'll be asked to install the latest firmware—this is essential for security and functionality.

After firmware installation, you'll have the option to create a new wallet or restore an existing one from a recovery seed. For new users, select "Create new wallet."

5

Set Up PIN Protection

Your Trezor will prompt you to set up a PIN code. This PIN protects your device from unauthorized physical access. Choose a PIN that's hard to guess but memorable to you.

The Trezor device uses an innovative matrix system for PIN entry that prevents keyloggers from capturing your PIN. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your PIN securely.

6

Backup Your Recovery Seed

This is the most critical security step. Your device will generate a 12, 18, or 24-word recovery seed—this is the master key to all your cryptocurrencies.

Carefully write down each word in exact order on your recovery seed cards. Never digitize your recovery seed—no photos, no cloud storage, no digital documents. Store it securely offline, preferably in a fireproof and waterproof safe or safety deposit box.

7

Confirm Your Recovery Seed

Your Trezor will ask you to confirm several words from your recovery seed to ensure you've written it down correctly. This verification step is crucial—if you can't restore access with your seed, your funds could be permanently lost.

Take your time with this process and double-check each word against your written backup.
